Type of Contest:

3 Phase Team Competition for Professionals and Students, however, individuals can compete in each Category for the individual awards. There will be 6 awards in each Category. Only teams can compete for the Overall Team Trophies.

Category:
Progressive Evening Total Look

Team Definition:
The team must consist of 2 to 3 members. For the professional team each member must be either an employee or owner of the same salon. For the student team each member must be currently enrolled in the same school with hours to complete. Each team member must participate in at least one phase of the competition.

Object of the competition:
To create on one female model a Progressive Evening Total Look presentation for the appreciation of the consumer featuring elegance, grace and beauty based on the elements of hair, nails, makeup and attire. Cutting-edge creativity in combination with technical precision will be the judging focus throughout all phases of this competition.

Judging:
Each element (hair, nails, makeup) will be judged separately at the conclusion of each phase. Individual awards will be given for each of these three phases. A final judging of the combined total look will then be added to the scores from the previous three phases to determine the winner of the prestigious Beauty Revolution Salon Team of the Year and Beauty Revolution School Team of the Year awards.

Phase #1

Progressive Wearable Nail Art

Objective:
Create a nail-art look that is progressive in design and still wearable in real life. This is not a fantasy competition! Use any decorations suitable for wear for an evening on the town, while exploring new horizons in materials and techniques utilized in nail designing. The nail design must compliment the entire total look of the model’s presentation.

Starting Point:
1. Models may report with any type of professional nail extensions. (see product restrictions #2) Glued-on pre-formed plastic overlays will be disqualified.
2. Nail extensions may be any shape or length.
3. Pre-done artwork may be incorporated “into” the structure of the nail extensions or pre-done backgrounds may be painted “onto” the nail extensions, but not in combination.

Time allowed:
Professional - 45 Minutes
Student - 60 minutes

Special Instructions:
1. No artwork shall extend beyond the perimeters of the nail surface.
2. No artwork should exceed three (3mm) millimeters above the nail surface.
3. No props.
4. All pre-done artwork or backgrounds must be enhanced with additional materials or decorations during the contest.
5. Pre-done artwork or backgrounds “may not” represent the majority of the finished design.

Product Restrictions:
1. No decals
2. No plastic preformed nail tips may be applied as full nails.

Tool Restrictions:
1. No airbrushes or compressors.
2. No machinery.
3. No electric provided

Phase #2

Progressive Makeup

Objective:
Create a haute couture/runway type makeup look for the face, demonstrating refined technical execution in combination with new and innovative application ideas while still maintaining consumer appeal. This is not a fantasy competition! The makeup design must compliment the entire total look of the model’s presentation.

Starting Point:
1. Models will report with face and neck free of any cosmetic enhancement.
2. False eyelashes may be pre-applied.

Time Allowed:
Professional - 45 minutes
Student – 60 minutes

Special Instructions:
1. Makeup will not be of a theatrical or fantasy nature.

Product Restrictions:
1. No prosthetics

1. No airbrushes
2. No electrical provided

Phase #3

Progressive Evening Comb Out

Objective:
Create a progressive evening hairstyle for the appreciation of the consumer. Competitors are encouraged to express their creativity and showcase their technical ability while keeping the hairstyle cutting-edge but not fantasy. The hairstyle design must compliment the entire total look of the model’s presentation.

Starting Point:
1. Hair may be set in any manner, ready for combing.
2. All setting apparatus will be removed from the hair prior to combing.
3. All hair must be dry.

Time Allowed:
Professional - 30 minutes
Student – 45 minutes

JUDGING NOTE:
10 minutes for model touchup (All teams members may be included at this time) Judging of the hair and final presentation will be done at the same time with a separate score for each.

Special Instructions:
1. All hair must be combed
2. The combined use of hairpieces, extensions or ornaments may not represent more than 1/3 of the finished hairstyle.
3. Hairpieces may be preset, but not pre-combed.
4. At the end of the 30 minutes for styling, the team will be given 10 minutes for adjustments to all other elements of the model’s presentation.
